TAMPA, Fla. (March 26, 2012) — The University of South Florida Division of Student Affairs is wrapping up the Spring 2012 semester with a schedule of exciting speakers. Throughout the month of April, USF students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend lectures by CBS News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Lara Logan, USF professor and Maya archaeologist Dr. Christian Wells, and author and LGBT advocate Chaz Bono. University Lecture Series Presents Lara Logan
When: April 3, 2012 at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Marshall Student Center Ballroom, USF Tampa campus
The University Lecture Series presents the free lecture, Lara Logan from Apartheid to Afghanistan: Reporting from the Front Line. Logan, a current CBS News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent and 60 Minutes Correspondent, will be offering USF students, staff, and the community a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at foreign affairs in the media.
Speaking candidly, South African born Logan will share her experiences both as a journalist and as a citizen reporting on war, conflict, and global change that has occurred during the two decades of her career. The award-winning journalist, who has been recognized for her work in Iraq and Afghanistan, will offer the audience compelling insight and refreshing honesty in her message of truth, courage, and integrity.

Last Lecture Series with Dr. Christian Wells
When: April 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Marshall Student Center Oval Theater, USF Tampa campus
USF Housing and Residential Education hosts the 2012 Last Lecture Series My Career in Ruins: Confessions of an Archaeologist with Dr. Christian Wells. The talk will describe the adventures of a Maya archaeologist, who will provide helpful advice on how to handle a range of natural and social disasters including volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, earthquakes, forest fires, and military coup d’états. These and other tales of ‘the unexpected’ will show how USF students can become global citizens by traveling abroad.
The premise behind the Last Lecture, which is given by a distinguished faculty, administrator or staff, is if you were to have one last chance to speak to a group, what would your message be? The intention is that a hypothetical ‘last’ lecture will evoke inspirational, engaging and entertaining messages. A tradition at universities around the country for several decades, the Last Lecture Series program gained popularity in 2007 when computer science professor Randy Pausch gave his last lecture at Carnegie Mellon University, making news around the world and spawning a widely acclaimed book, The Last Lecture.

University Lecture Series Presents Chaz Bono
When: April 17, 2012 at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Marshall Student Center Ballroom, USF Tampa campus
The University Lecture Series presents this free lecture with Chaz Bono, the only child of celebrity couple Cher and Sonny Bono. A LGBT rights advocate and three time author, Bono will share his life experiences and his gender reassignment from female to male.
Bono has contributed as a writer-at-large to The Advocate and in 1996 became the Human Rights Campaign’s National Coming Out Day spokesperson. Bono also served as Entertainment Media Director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and has spoken at dozens of universities and LGBT events.
