5 things you can do right now to help the environment

In recognition of Earth Week from April 16-22 we should all take a good, long look at our habits and evaluate them for missed opportunities to help the environment. Keep in mind that even the smallest action and change can have a huge impact in the collective behavior towards our planet. Not only can you set a positive example for your kids, neighbors and friends to follow. But even more importantly you can contribute to saving the Earth one step at a time.
Here are 5 things you can do right now to shift the balance of the environment back into place:
  1. Protect our water resources: Dispose of solid and liquid wastes and medications safely. If there are no take-back programs near you, contact your state and local waste management authorities and ask about how to dispose of unused medication.
  2. Reduce air pollution: Pass on gas! Take public transportation, carpool, plan your day to reduce trips and vehicle emissions.
  3. Prevent land contamination: Use pesticides safely! Reduce or eliminate where possible.
  4. Save energy: Turn lights off when not needed, unplug unused appliances and choose energy-saving appliances if they're available. Look for Energy Star!
  5. Reduce waste: recycle glass, cans, textiles, paper and anything else you can find a creative use for. Look for a recycling center in your area here!
